The Psalms speak to the deepest inner longing of every human being. Songs of lament, songs of joy, songs of adoration. These songs have been set to music for thousands of years, across time, culture and space. Ali Maegraith brings her own original settings of these ancient and timeless songs to modern jazz. The Berlin Psalm Project debut album was recorded in 2023. Jazz, an art form that is driven by improvisation, capturing the emotion and essence of the moment, provides the perfect setting to explore deeply into what it means to pour out our hearts in vulnerability before God.

Neben ihren musikalischen Karrieren arbeiten sie nämlich in der musikalischen und pastoralen Leitung der Berliner Kiez Church Wedding. Ihnen das Beten von Psalmen vertraut - nicht nur als historische, kulturverbindende religiöse Tradition, sondern als essentielle Praxis zu denen sie selber andere anleiten und ohne die ein christlicher Glaube wie Blues ohne Bluenotes oder Jazz ohne #11 sein würde - undenkbar, und un(er-)hörbar. Hier werden Psalmen nicht nur gesungen und damit gebetet, sondern sie suchen auch das musizierende Kollektiv, sie suchen den unverstellten Ausdruck des Menschlichen voller Mut, Spielfreude, und Risikobereitschaft im Angesicht dessen, was Christen als dreiinigen Gott empfinden und John Coltrane "The force" genannt hatte. Und dies erzeugt für uns irdische Jazzhörende äußerst lebendige facettenreiche Musik, die den Bilder- und Gefühlswelten der Psalmen neu erschliesst und in der Jazztradition verankert."
